The history of the department

Formation and development of the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology is closely connected with the history of K.Zhubanov Aktobe Regional State, which is one of the largest universities founded in Western Kazakhstan in 1966. The department is one of the leading departments of this university.

From the first day, the department’s employees made every effort to form a scientific-practical, methodological base of the university’s educational process. The teaching staff of the department concentrates on the study of general pedagogy and psychological sciences in the history of the department, which continues its tradition to this day.

Since the early 1960s, the department has been working on publishing scientific articles and manuals on the integration of research trends, motivating students in educational and cognitive activities, interdisciplinary communication, solving various educational problems, topical problems.

In the history of the department there are several well-known scientists: from 1966 to 1971, K.B. Balniyazova was appointed the first head of the department.

From 1971 till 1976  the department was headed by the senior lecturer Sh.I. Imashev, and between 1976-1985 the department was headed by V.N. Munasipov.

In 1981, according to the separation of departments, the Department of Psychology was founded. From 1986 to 1991, the candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor T.P. Antipova, and since 1991 the doctor of philosophy, professor A.T.Tayzhanov contributed.

1997-2012, the department was headed by the doctor of pedagogical, psychological sciences, professor, academician A.A. Kalyuzhny.

During 2012-2013 academic year the department was headed by the doctor of pedagogical sciences B.Zh.Kurmanova.

In 2014, the departments of Psychology and Pedagogy and the Department of Social Pedagogy and Psychology were united, and was founded one department called “Pedagogy and Psychology of Education”. The head of the department was Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Zhukenova G.B.

In 1981 in the Aktyubinsk Pedagogical Institute was created the department “Theoretical and Applied Psychology”. The first head of the department was Candidate of Medical Sciences, R.E.Ran.

In 1984, candidate of psychological sciences Kukhareva T.A. was invited to the Aktyubinsk Pedagogical Institute as the head of this department. In 1993, the head of the department became the senior teacher A.B. Turakhmetova.

Between 2008-2017 Head of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Psychology was Candidate of Sciences, Associate Professor Karabalina A.A.

In order to optimize and modernize the department in 2017, it was decided to unite the chairs of Theoretical and Applied Psychology and Pedagogy and Psychology of Education, and to transform it into the Chair of Pedagogy and Psychology. At present the staff of the department consists of 24 faculties, including 9 candidates of sciences, 3 PhD, 12 masters.
